Tests

So I am in my last few weeks of the semester and I feel like I am being bombarded with tests. This is always a part of the end of school, but I feel like this semester has some extra ones thrown in there, which is silly. And it's kind of bad timing because my brain has decided that it's pretty much done with this whole school thing and it doesn't really want to work anymore, it just wants some sleep and quality TV time. So it's a little hard to get it to buckle down and study and all that jazz. Which is a little frustrating for my gut, which is the part that suffers if I get a bad test grade, but whatevs. But in a few weeks, it'll all be over for a few weeks. Then it will start all over again :P. But in about 18 months I will be done with college! This freaks me out a little, but I'm excited.

In other news, I just finished the Count of Monte Cristo about two weeks ago, and it was pretty great. Soooooo much better than the movie.

So basically this post was pointless, I just thought I'd throw it out there. Now I'm gonna go watch Enchanted :)
Peace!

Procrastination

So I am supposed to be studying right now. So of course I am on my computer blog stalking and looking at facebook. So I figured, as long as I am procrastinating, why not blog about it? So here I am :)
Ummmm since last I posted I haven't done much other than school, school, and ....school :) (See facebook for pictures). And when I'm not in school I am studying or watching TV, so as you can see, my life is super duper exciting :) But I'll try to think of things I've been doing for you, let's see:
1. Watching Psych season 6!! Woooo!
2. Buying books, namely: Wives and Daughters by Elizabeth Gaskell, The Jungle Books by Rudyard Kipling, the entire collected works of Edgar Allen Poe, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and other stories by Washington Irving, A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickins, and The Secret Garden by Francis Hodgson Burnett. (Thanks Bethany!!). And now I will read them, so that will be fun.
3. Watching movies with my nursing homies while we study, make T-shirts, and just chillax and recover from school, namely Cars 2, Toy Story 3, and Finding Neverland, cause we are 12 :)
4. Reading the Old Testament, and taking an OT institute class with my Dad, which is pretty awesome sauce :)
5. Playing through all of the hymns in the LDS hymnbook. (I broke number 100 yesterday, woot!) Just for fun, I feel bad for my family's ears though, I'm not real great at the piano, but I'm getting a little better :)
6. Watching waaaaaay too much Hulu and Netflix, definitely gonna cut back on that this week.
7. Trying to exercise, I decided I want to get to where I can run 6 miles without stopping, so far I can do half a mile....so we'll see how that goes :)
8. Having the song Party Rock stuck in my head all the time for no apparent reason....
So yeah, that's about it I think, I should probably go study now, peace out homies!

I'm a nurse...almost

So as many or all of you know I started nursing school this semester! This picture is of my learning community (a group of 10 girls that I spend all day every day with, and all of them are absolutely amaazing), and my FOR (Faculty of Record, Martha, basically our boss, who is awesome). This picture was from our last day of doing our health education project at a preschool, which was way fun. I'm seriously way lucky to be in this group, it's definitely the best one :)
So yeah, nursing school is pretty great, it's also totally overwhelming at first, but we get used to it, until we get weeks like next week get thrown at us where we have an exam and two competencies (practical exams). Woot! But it's all good, because one of the competencies is on injections, so now we are all official needle wielders, which makes us official nurses! We did our first injections last Tuesday and totally rocked them. I lucked out and got an awesome partner so when she stuck me it didn't hurt, and she was not a wimp so sticking her was no big deal :) (She's the one in the middle of the front row of the picture). So after all our competencies and stuff, we will be allowed to do some of our skills on actual patients in a long term care facility! Woohoo! It will be legit, and a little nerve racking, but it's all good.
School isn't all fun and games and sticking each other with needles though, it's also a lot of studying and not a lot of sleep and being at school for a long time every day and feeling stressed and behind on studying all the time. But luckily we have our learning groups to lean on for support, so at least we don't have to go it alone :)
So yeah, that's pretty much been my life for the last seven weeks, and it'll be my life for the next two years, so that's kind of exciting. And then I'll be a nurse for real!! And I'll get to clean up poop and puke and blood for the rest of my life, which will be gross, but probably worth it. :)

Trekkie

So my inner nerd has been especially prevalent lately. I don't know if it's because I'm in school all the time, or because they put all the Star Trek episodes on netflix, or if I just am letting me be me a little more often, but either way it's fun to be a nerd. For instance, I recently got way too excited about Klingon instructional videos on youtube. I also bought a set of Star Trek cups at Bookmans, and was tempted to buy the Star Wars set also. I also found Star Wars: Jedi Knights of the Old Republic, the PC game, which I have conquered twice a few years ago, and decided to play it again. I was also recently heartbroken when I discovered that Atomic Comics closed. It was a blow. I also just read Jane Slayre, and I like Zombies. I also just found a list of 50 nerdy things to do before you die, hello new bucket list! Also, I currently spend all of my time studying pharmacology or nursing theory. Woot. So yeah, that's the nerdy stuff I've been up to lately, I feel like there's more but I can't think of anything, cause I'm sleepy. That is all. Peace.
P.S. Go listen to White and Nerdy by Weird Al, it speaks the words of my soul :)
P.P.S. Also I just took a quiz to see how nerdy I am, and I got: Supreme Nerd. Yessssss! I scored higher on the nerd scale than 93% of the people who took the test. Find out how nerdy you are! http://www.nerdtests.com/ft_nq.php

The Last Week

So sometime yesterday whilst pondering on my current state, I realized that this is my last week before starting nursing school, and it is also my last week of being a teenager. This is a little bit crazy sauce. It's funny because when I was a kid, I figured that I'd be all grown up at 20. I'd have everything figured out, and I wouldn't be scared of anything. Now that I'm actually here I don't feel grown up at all. I'm still just me. I'm still scared of spiders and snakes, and a whole lot of other things, and I have a whole lot less figured out than I did when I was little. Mostly I'm just a taller version of kidly me. :) But it is exciting to finally be in the nursing program, and it's a little weird to be turning 20. I decided I should probably start growing up when those things happen, so I've done as much as I can for the last few days to revert to my childhood as much as possible. Though that's proven a little difficult since I've been spending a lot of my time at work. But I did read the whole Fablehaven series (5 books) in a week, which was pretty awesome and reminded me of the fascination I had as a little girl with fairy stories. I also read The Outsiders, which have read about a bagillion times since I was about 10 and it's one of my favorite books ever. And I've been sleeping in, which I won't get to do much of for the next couple years :)
So that is my not-so-exciting conclusion to my Summer, and to my teen years. Hello homework and twenties!

Libros

So I was looking at a Summer reading list that I made, and of the 25 books that I listed I only read two of them. Which kind of felt like a failure, but on the other hand, I read lots of other books, so I don't feel that bad about it :) So these are the books I've read this summer:
1. Villette by Charlotte Bronte- AWESOME! Totally loved this book, though it hasn't quite beat out Jane Eyre as my favorite :)
2. Elantris by Branden Sanderson- I read this at my brother's house, it was totally amazing
3. Howl's Moving Castle by Dianna Wynne Jones- I loved the movie, but the book is even better :)
4. Castle in the Air- sequel to Howl's Moving Castle, basically awesome, but I liked the first one better.
5. Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen- I liked this book, it was cute, and it kept me occupied whilst traveling to Idaho :)
6. The Nazi Officer's Wife- This is a true story about a Jewish woman who married a Nazi officer during WWII, it's pretty sad and intense, but it's good
7. Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke- this is one of my new favorite books ever. It was crazy long and took me a while, but I loved it :)
8. Jane Eyre, again :)
9. Daddy Long-Legs, again :)
10. Dear Enemy, sequel to Daddy Long Leg (both by Jean Webster), basically awesome :)
uhmmm, I've read a couple more, but I can't recall what they were :) Right now I'm in the middle of Mistborn, by Branden Sanderson, so far so good :)

Summertime

So as I am approaching the end of Summer in a few weeks I've been thinking about whether I am excited for school to start up again. And the answer is YES!!!!!! For one thing, it means my dear friend over at Elferingewort will be coming home soon, which is probably sad for her to leave her friends and family she is with, but I will be pretty thrilled to have her back here :) For another thing, I am finally, after years and years of waiting and preparing, going to start nursing school! This is totally weirding me out because I have known I was going to be a nurse ever since I was giving shots to my teddy bears at age 6, but it's always been that distant future type of thing, where it felt like it was never actually going to happen. But guess what, it's happening, in less than 4 weeks!!! Crazy sauce. So yeah, this year is going to be crazy tough, but it will also rock :)

In other news, this Summer has been pretty great. As aforementioned, my sister and her kids came to stay with us for a few weeks before moving across the states. I've always loved hanging out with all of them, and I'm pretty bummed that they're going to be so far away, so it was good to be able to spend some time with them. I don't think it had occurred to me how much I will miss them until Strawberry (my sister's oldest daughter) woke up the morning I was leaving for Idaho and came to give me a big hug and I didn't want to let go :( But I'm really happy that they all finally got to go be with their Daddy who moved a few weeks ahead of them to start working while they finished up school.

In other other news I spent the last few weeks at my eldest brother's house up in northern Idaho. I had a lot of fun and it was cool to get to spend time with him and his family because I don't get to see them very often since they always live so far away. His kids are so cute and fun, and I got to play with them a lot. As soon as I got there his daughter took me outside and handed me a chicken to hold, which was pretty cool cause I've never held a chicken before, and we spent a lot of time playing chickens after that:) The older boys took me on lots of adventures in their yard which mostly consisted of getting lost in the tall timothy grass behind their house, and they taught me a lot of songs from Mario :) And they also have a little toddler who is crazy adorable and he would just run up to me yell "Hey Bon-nie!" with a big grin on his face. It was pretty heart melting. And it was also way fun to spend time with my brother and his wife. It's been a while since I had gotten to spend much time with either of them and they are pretty stellar people to be around :) It was also a bonus that the weather was absolutely beautiful :)

So basically that is what I have been up to this summer. The only sibling I didn't see was my second oldest brother, cause he was up staying with his wife's family, so hopefully I will get to see him sometime soon :) Other than that I have been reading lots of books. So far all of them have been good, someday I'll do a book review for them, but this post is getting a little too long :) But my favorites have been Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrel, Villette, and Elantris. I highly recommend all of them :)
